This webinar will provide an overview of the process to request accommodations on the USMLE Step examinations for students with disabilities. Presenters will review key initial information including: required and recommended documentation for a successful request; an overview of the structure and content of the Step exams in general; and a review of the much anticipated updated Guide to Requesting Accommodations on the USMLE Step Exams.
Part 2: USMLE Step exams: Working w/ providers, creating a plan w/ your student, timeline, letter of support.
Description: This webinar will highlight best practices for how DRPs at allopathic medical schools can collaborate with healthcare providers to garner high-quality documentation as required by the NBME. Presenters will provide guidance on how to establish an effective timeline due to the complex nature of the NBME accommodations process, including a timeline from pre-matriculation through completion of both USMLE exams required for graduation. Finally, presenters will provide guidance on how DRPs can write a meaningful and impactful letter of support.
Part 3: NBME Guide for Requesting Accommodations: Assisting students with crafting the personal statement
Description: The personal statement is the student’s only opportunity to contextualize their disability in the context of their personal experiences and the examination. It’s a critical element of their packet and often times a source of great personal distress. Providing concrete guidance to students, along with a suggested outline, personal statement prompts, and support in editing increases the chances that students applications will be understood and reflect the level of detail needed to meet the NBME standards. In this webinar, the presenters will assist the audience with understanding the aforementioned items and the necessary steps for submitting a quality personal statement.
